Winter SolstiCelebration is Dallas’ largest and longest running seasonal tradition, now in its 15th year. With attendance of over 750 people, the event, held this year on Friday, Dec. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cathedral of Hope, is the next largest Winter Solstice event in the nation, second only to Paul Winter's Winter Solstice Celebrations held in New York City. The event celebrates the interfaith community, emphasizing the qualities and concerns we share as humans.
Winter SolstiCelebration is held each December, as close to the shortest day of the year as possible, and features a wildly diverse cast of professional musicians, dancers, singers and poets.
This year’s entertainment lineup: vocalist Lainey Bernstein; poetry ensemble Dancing Tongue; the dreamsicles; storytellers Gene and Peggy Helmick-Richardson; trumpeter Freddie Jones; percussionist Michael Kenny; ritualist and writer Amy Martin; dancer Karen MacIntyre; No Rhyme or Reason World Flute Ensemble; harpist Geoffrey Ricketts; and special guest, The Women’s Chorus of Dallas.
Each year hundreds of pounds of pantry items are collected for the church’s food drive and winterwear for their coat drive.
